It’s slow going, sharing photos from our trip to Wales in May… So today I thought I’d share a few. Although, apart from the top one, Tony took all these photos!
I do not like heights one bit, especially not heights with steep drops on the side. And to get to Skomer Island, where the photos below were taken, you first had to scale some cliffs and then get on a boat via a very steep jetty with only a flimsy rail to one side. Do you see how steep that jetty is? How flimsy that rail?
I did somehow manage to get up the cliffs and down to the top of the jetty, but by the time I got there, I was in tears. And when I realised exactly how steep that jetty is, well, it didn’t exactly help! Not pretty. So Tony had to help me back up the cliffs and down the cliffs onto solid ground.
I told him he should go with my parents on the boat to sail around Skomer, I’d be fine on the beach in Martin’s Haven; I could do some drawing and such.
A couple of days later they went back to Skomer to actually get on the island, because Skomer has something pretty special: puffins! I was quite sad not to go, because I reaaally wanted to see the puffins! And I also knew that there would be a lot of bluebells on the island, so I was disappointed that I couldn’t go.
But even if I’d managed to get on the boat, the ascent onto Skomer was even steeper and there was no rails, so I’d probably not been able to get off the boat!
Anyway, enough feeling sorry for myself.. ;-) Here are a few pictures which Tony took on Skomer. I hope you like them.
Beautiful place, but, like you, I wouldn't have gone down that cliff either.
