I’m a bit behind with sharing this new pattern: Scandi Tree of Life. I absolutely loved stitching this, although it took a bit longer than planned, thanks to my somewhat dodgy right thumb. But I finally finished it just before Christmas.
You can find the pattern in my shop here: Scandi Tree of Life. It is 10% off until January 13th, no code necessary.
I love the motifs and the colours in the pattern but I think the main reason I love it is because it is so simple to stitch. It uses just four stitches: back stitch, star stitch, lazy daisy and French knots. It is perfect for a beginner stitcher! And equally perfect for the more advanced stitcher who just wants a happy, colourful project where you don’t have to pay quite so much attention to detail.
Most of it is stitched in back stitch. I love back stitch. Some may find it boring but I find it really comforting. :-)
One of my favourite parts of the pattern: a wee squirrel. :-)
The Scandi inspiration appears often in my patterns but in this one it is very specific. The pattern is based on a commission I did for a tattoo design last year. I loved the tattoo design so much that I wanted to turn it into a pattern. But obviously I didn’t want to just use the tattoo design because that was a commission and I wanted to keep it special for the person who commissioned it.
So I made a slightly changed version of that design, but still in a tall, narrow format as I made it for the tattoo. But before I started stitching it, I decided that I really wanted a design that would properly fill an embroidery hoop, so back to the drawing board!
Scandi Tree of Life is the result and I love it. I did include that tall, narrow version of the design in the pattern in case that is just the thing that someone else wants to stitch.
You can see the finished tattoo here. The tattoo artist did an amazing job, it really looks almost stitched on the skin.
And in case anyone else was wondering: I’d be happy to design a tattoo for you! :-)
Wonderful pattern, I just love the use of bright colors and those motifs are so adorable, especially the squirrel.
