Yesterday we went on a day trip to France. As you do. We use Tesco vouchers to pay for the crossing with Euro Tunnel. We had planned on going to a town called Arras, but Tony wasn’t feeling 100% great, so we decided to cut the journey short and go to Lille in stead.
We went there before, for the Christmas market, and I don’t think we’ll be going back. I don’t know why, but it just doesn’t feel… welcoming. I can’t quite put my finger on it. The central square, Grande Place, has some nice looking buildings. Some of them remind me of Brugge.
This is the old Bourse, stock exchange. It has a courtyard in the middle. We popped in there and it was full of stalls selling old books, maps and toys.
I *almost* forgot about this Le Furet du Nord shop, which sells books, CDs, DVDs, craft things and stationery. Of course I had to have a look at the craft book section. Not many embroidery books, but loads of cross stitch books.
I liked all the different labels of these beers.

We passed this patisserie in one street. Such fancy cakes! Lots of tourists stopped to take pictures of them. We actually went inside and I sneaked a picture. ;-)
Tony bought a cake, which was first placed on a small dish, then put inside a box with a ribbon and finally placed in a bag with ribbon handles. You won’t get in your local Gregg’s, huh! They didn’t have any vegan cakes, so no cake for me.
Maybe I should open a vegan patisserie with fancy boxes and bags for the cakes. ;-)
