When I stitch my embroidery patterns, I always stitch on this particular kind of fabric I buy in Denmark. It is really nice, and just a bit stiffer than quilting cotton. I often have scraps leftover from this or that project and I’ve been looking for a way to use up all the scraps. Obviously, I don’t want to throw away fabric if it can be used!
A little while ago I had this pile of scraps lying on my desk and I suddenly thought ‘hey, I could make some wonky log cabin squares with these.”
And so I did. Normally I am all about the colours, but I really like these white squares. It’s quite meditative to sew these together, grabbing one scrap, then the next. And trying to get the maximum use out of them.
So far I have made three squares. And isn’t it the oddest thing: they are pretty much exactly the same size, but I didn’t plan it that way.
I quite like the sort of architectural texture of the squares. This close up it looks like steps!
I’m going to keep using my scraps to make these squares and then one day I’ll hopefully have enough to make a quilt. Maybe keeping it completely white, or maybe I’ll add a few pops of colour. We’ll see.. :-)
