I finished this appliqué quote by Frida Kahlo the other week. I like the quote very much. I think it is about preserving the…spirit of something. Because obviously you can’t keep the actual flowers alive by painting them. Or stitching them. But you can preserve the feeling of looking at them and the way they make you feel. Or something like that…
I guess the obvious thing would have been to add some appliqué flowers to this too, but it already felt quite busy with all the different fabrics in the letters. So I decided to stitch some flowers that would almost disappear into the background but add a flowery texture.
It turned out okay I think. Although maybe I should have used slightly darker yellows or maybe light orange so the flowers would show a little bit more. But I like it this way too! Now I just need to decide on how to frame it. I rarely think about that sort of practical things until I finish something. :-)
