A cross stitch project I started a little while ago. Or rather, a little test because I didn’t have a piece of cross stitch suitable fabric that is large enough. I’ll buy that in the new year so I can stitch this properly.
It is a Palestinian Tatreez pattern from Min Amanne. It is called Cypress Trees and Stars. It is absolutely gorgeous.
In the past, I have not had great results with cross stitch patterns, I usually count wrong somewhere and then it ends up in a mess. But I have really enjoyed what I have stitched of this little sample piece so far. Maybe I can do it without messing it up? :-)
Tatreez is Palestinian embroidery using traditional motifs, usually worked in cross stitch. It is really stunning. And it is part of UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

I made myself this wee brooch using one of the traditional Tatreez motifs, the Bethlehem star. With a few green decorations added around it because horror vacui, and I wanted to have more green in there, to balance things out a bit. I rarely use black when I’m stitching… never really sure how to use it but I think it turned out ok here. :-)
