I made this little advent candle holder earlier this month. I don’t know why it never occurred to me to make something like this… I made a little video while painting it. I also briefly talk about how I put it together.
I used to always have large pillar candles for each of the four Sundays in advent, but candles don’t agree with Tony so the comprise is to use these little candles instead. They are actually meant to go on the Christmas tree but since we have a fake tree, the candles don’t get used for their intended purpose! :-)
I had ordered something online and when it arrived it was wrapped in lots of sheets of this off white paper. And there was barely a crease in the sheets so they were just begging to be kept, and used for something. The first thing I used (a couple of) them for is: gift wrap, stamped with hand carved stamps. That is a very satisfying thing to do! And practically free since I had all the other materials already. :-)
I still have loads of the paper left so I may set an afternoon aside at some point and just stamp a bunch of sheets for future gift wrapping.
In this video there is a shortened sequence of my carving of the star of Bethlehem stamp in the photo.
For Lucia day I made Lussekatter, saffron buns. These are a Swedish tradition but I have been making them every year for several years. I even shared my vegan recipe for lussekatter last year.
They should be yellow and not brown, but I brush them with plant milk instead of egg, as some recipes say to do, so they tend to turn brown on the outside. I don’t mind, it’s the tasty, golden inside the counts!
Maybe next year I will try making them without the milk brushed on and see if that makes a difference…
I had a couple of these for breakfast this morning. The perfect way to start a Christmas Eve day. Which you may know is the main celebration for Danes. So tonight we are having a Danish Christmas dinner with Tony’s parents. Tomorrow we will be at home, having a very relaxing day with books and maybe a film…
I wish you are merry Christmas/Winter tide festivities and a happy new year. x Carina
