On New Year’s Eve I made 13 hexagons, taking me to a total of 2,500 hexagons using Denyse Schmidt fabrics. I may need more than that for the quilt I’m making but 2,500 is a good place to start!
On the right in the photo above you can see the first section laid out. Once that is all stitched together, I’ll lay out another section that will blend with the first one. It will be interesting to see how it will all work out. I don’t have room for a design wall anywhere so this design board (a corkboard wrapped in curtain lining) is the best I can do.
But maybe it’s good that I can only do a small section at a time. If I did have a proper design wall I might get too carried away and make a large layout that would feel overwhelming. The small section I can fit on the design board feels very manageable and I think that’s important for a time consuming project like this…
I hope I can finish the whole quilt by the end of April next year. But maybe I won’t and that’s fine too…
I have been sharing videos about the project on my YouTube channel. Here’s a playlist dedicated to the hexagon quilt if you want to check it out….
A few pictures I took of the hexagon stacks before I sorted them into bags by colour. :-)
There is something so satisfying about things sorted by colour. And this gives sort of an idea of how the quilt will look in many months’ time.
