Today is day 24 in this year’s 100 Day Project. I wasn’t going to do the project this year but then I decided that I was going to do it. Because I enjoy it so much. There is just something about working on something for quite a long time, but also knowing that it is a finite project. It makes it feel ambitious but also manageable. :-)
The project I am doing this year is to slowly stitch this quote by Toni Morrison:
This is precisely the time when artists go to work. There is no time for despair, no place for self-pity, no need for silence, no room for fear. We speak, we write, we do language. That is how civilizations heal.
It is a bit longer than 100 letters, most days I stitch one letter, but every so often I’ll stitch two letters. It is a good quote to spend a lot of time with, a reminder of the importance of art, in all its forms, to remind us of our humanity and curiosity and kindness… I’m really looking forward to seeing the finished stitchery. :-)
