This is a stack of quilt blocks. I originally made them in October 2018. And I sewed them together back then. But then the quilt top languished in a bag because after I had sewed the blocks together, I realised that, in my eagerness to see the quilt top put together, I had forgot to trim the blocks.
Maybe I could have left it as it was but it was nagging me. When I found the quilt top a couple of months ago, while looking for a different quilt top (!), I decided that now was the time to sort it out.
First I stitched a note on each block so I would know where to put it. And then I spent evenings in front of the telly, unpicking the quilt top. It was so boring…many times I asked myself why I didn’t just trim the blocks the first time around.
And the tediousness didn’t stop there. The next task was to press the blocks. All 96 of them. And then of course I had to trim them.

But then I could finally lay them out, to check that they were the right way up etc.
I designed the quilt to use some of my Denyse Schmidt stash, and to use my set of drunkard’s path templates from Papper, Sax, Sten.
I started sewing the blocks together yesterday and I’m hoping I will finish the top today. If I’m feeling really ambitious, I may baste it tomorrow. And then I need to have a think about how to quilt it. I kinda have an idea but I’m not sure that it will work. We’ll see.
At least the quilt top is almost finished (again.) I can’t wait to be able to tick it off my to-do list. :-D
Oh and I also need to think of a name for it. Quilts need names!
